Bariaa Khalil studied Medical Laboratory Technology at the American University of Beirut, after which she obtained a master’s degree in Biology. Her research work focused on the mechanism of action and efficacy of a synthetic retinoid (ST1926) in adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma. For two years as a research assistant at King Faisal Royal Hospital and Research Center, she worked on two projects where the first investigated the partners of Striatin protein and the role of their interaction in regulating cardiomyocyte spontaneous contraction rate and the second project focused on the involvement of Striatin protein in apoptotic cell death.

In September 2019, Bariaa joined the Ph.D. program with a full-granted scholarship in Molecular Medicine and Translational Research program. Her work is a collaboration between the immunooncology group at the University of Sharjah, and LIED, University of Lübeck, in the working group of Prof. Dr. med. vet. Jennifer Hundt.

Her Ph.D. project is on studying the role of chemokines in pyroptosis of NK92. She has published several research and review articles.
