Christoph M. Hammers, MD, PhD, MRSB, received his medical training at the University of Lübeck (Germany), with rotations to the Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA, USA) and the NHNN, Queen Square, at University College London (London, UK). Following to a DFG-funded postdoctoral fellowship at Dr. John R. Stanley’s laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA, USA), Dr. Hammers resumed his experimental work and his residency at the Dept. of Dermatology at the University of Lübeck. Here he is working as a clinician scientist, at the interface of clinical and experimental dermatology. His particular research interests are basic pathophysiologic mechanisms in pemphigus and pemphigoid diseases and the translational utilization of findings from fundamental research. During his postdoctoral fellowship and his PhD he applied state-of-the-art technologies such as proteomics and NGS to characterize antibody responses on a molecular level.
