Paige McKenzie joined the working group of Prof. Dr. med. vet Jennifer Hundt at the LIED in 2016 through the DAAD RISE grant while in the process of obtaining her Bachelor’s in Biochemistry at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research work focused on the role of peripheral circadian clocks in the development of epidermolysis bullosa acquisita. After completing her Bachelor’s in 2017, Paige went on to study medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, TX, USA), where she has completed 3 years of training so far. She is currently completing a year-long research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA, USA) where she is studying the epidemiology of alopecia areata and exploring the use of advanced biologic therapies for the treatment of this disease. She plans to finish her final year of medical school in 2021 and will apply for a residency position in the field of Dermatology with a special interest in pediatric dermatology.
